Auto Features Rock!

Filed under: Photos, That random stuff — DonnaB at 10:04 pm on Sunday, August 9, 2009

I created five photo posts last night for my photoblog and mentioned I had them set to automatically upload over the next few nights. It worked and I’m happy about that! You can check out the latest picture there.

In other news, I start back keeping my babies tomorrow. Tonight I’m excited cause I have truly missed the Baby Girl while their Mom was on maternity leave. I’m sure by the end of this week I will be as attached to her little brother. For the record, so I can look back someday and know, Baby Girl is 14 and 1/2 months old and Baby Boy is 2 months and 8 days old. Fun and joyous and yes, no doubt hectic times are ahead for me and I can’t wait!

And to my Aunt Mary, thanks for telling me how good poke sallet can be and for commenting. Love you!

The ShutterBUG has struck again!

I actually took my camera out today and enjoyed shooting a bit. A few flowers, a few critters and even a weed or two. I’ll be posting them on my photoblog and will be using the auto upload feature to add one daily over the next five nights. I hope it works!

Old Photos

After many years of only gathering for a death in the family, my Dad’s nephew and his wife organized a family reunion and held it at their home. While I did get a few random pictures of people looking through old albums or simply visiting, the ones I took of old photos in an album are one of the best parts of the day.

Pa Jones, young boy on the leftThe young, barefoot boy on the left is my Daddy’s Dad. This is his huge family which wasn’t that uncommon back in those days. Pa, as the grandchildren came to call him, was born in 1893, Bea had this photo dated 1903 which would have made him around 10 years of age. I had never seen this picture and was amazed to see how much my Dad looked like his Dad at that age. In fact, I can see many family resemblances in his siblings and parents to my family members alive today.

Jones Family 1935 - the baby is my fatherThis picture was surely taken in 1935 since the baby, my Dad, was born in the early fall of 1934. This was probably a springtime photo considering the clothing worn, the size of the baby and his birthdate. My dad’s mother, his brother and two sisters are pictured here. The two sisters are the only ones living at the present time with Beatrice at 83 years young and Jo Marie is soon to be 78.

Jones Family 1943Bea had this photo dated 1943. The oldest child, Max, Jr., would have been serving in the Army and of course, not present when this picture was taken. Daddy would have been around eight to nine years of age. They were a handsome lot and I was thrilled to get a copy of all of these. Pa lived to be 91 years of age, Mamaw was 82 years of age when she died, Max, Jr., was 73 years young and my Dad was way too young at nearly 55. Those that have gone on before us are never far from our memories and thank goodness, we have these wonderful photos to remember them by.

Jimmy’s Old Cat

Filed under: Photos — DonnaB at 9:34 pm on Friday, June 12, 2009

My father-in-law’s old cat is still hanging in with us out at the old house. Patches has made a few appearances on my photo blog and I managed to get another shot of her that I really like. That blurred background with her in sharp focus is a hit with me. The blur is known in photo circles as bokeh, meaning, the Japanese-originated concept of the difference between out of focus areas of an image due to lens design. I know, gobbledy-gook if you aren’t the least bit interested. However, that background blurring or in fact, the quality of the blur is an enhancement, believe it or not. Oh, let me stop rambling and let you take a look at the latest picture of Patches.

See what I mean? There’s a lot more to explain depending on your lens choice, the aperture setting and a few other technical aspects that I don’t fully understand myself. I’m just happy that I’m finally grasping why parts of a photo being blurry can be a good thing.

Busy week, busy day, busy, busy, busy! I’m ready for some rest and relaxation. Where oh where might one find that? Any clues, y’all? :)

Baby Brother’s Early Arrival

Filed under: That random stuff — DonnaB at 8:24 pm on Tuesday, June 2, 2009

He was scheduled to be delivered by c-section Thursday… guess he had other plans. His Momma started contracting last night and off they went to the hospital. Baby Brother arrived around noon today and his Big Sister giggled every time she got to touch his head. He is a pretty baby and I’m happy the wait for him is over. Both Momma and baby boy are fine tonight. Their Daddy called a little while ago asking if I would keep big sister tomorrow and of course, I said yes. I don’t know if I will keep her again after that until the Mom returns to work in mid-August or early September and then I’ll have both of them. Fun times ahead people! I’ll add a picture of the sweet boy in a password protected post.

The last day of May…

Filed under: That random stuff — DonnaB at 9:30 pm on Sunday, May 31, 2009

…. and what can I say? ;)

Oh, I can say I’m proud summer has arrived, just love hot weather.

I will say I am happy we will soon get to meet another new baby. In fact, this coming Thursday unless he decides to come sooner. The baby I’m keeping has a brother coming and yes, they will only be a year apart. I’m thinking it will be lots of fun and plenty of work too, but oh so rewarding for their family and me!

I’ll tell you I finally got the flower bug and have filled my empty pots. It was hard to get excited about playing in the rain to plant them and the reason I am late getting them started.

Oh, let’s see, what else? OH! Super excited that my Dad’s nephew and family have organized a family reunion. The first in many years and I can’t wait for that!

I don’t have anything else to say on this last day of May. How about you?

Week 341 at Plus PSP

Filed under: Graphic Images — DonnaB at 10:06 pm on Thursday, May 28, 2009

The challenge for week 341 are the hands of the clock. I made everything in this image with Corel’s Paint Shop Pro version X and a few plugins. I think I would like a kitchen decorated in this style. Maybe someday, but by then, I’m sure stainless would be as out of style as my old kitchen is now. Oh well, a gal can dream, can’t she?
