Doggy Tale… yes, another one!

Filed under: That random stuff — DonnaB at 10:23 pm on Tuesday, January 29, 2008

I was awakened by an awful noise this morning a little after 6 a.m. which turned out to be Ed walking through the house carrying a newborn screaming puppy. He had been smoking (cooking) a brisket on our electric smoker all night and had gone out into our garage to check on the meat when he heard the puppy crying. We have no female dogs about to give birth, so for a moment I was confused in my groggy state.

His words were, “Can you get up and do something with this?”

By that time, I had come to my senses and remembered the neighbors two doors down have a Doberman and she was expecting. I threw on some clothes, grabbed the pup and headed down to their home and knocked on the door. The mama dog had heard me and there she came around the corner of their house. She is normally kept in their fenced yard, but had escaped.

The 15-year-old daughter was up getting ready to catch the school bus, so she immediately came to the door and was surprised to see me standing there holding a pup and to see the mama there too.

Anyway, to make a long story longer, the goofy dog had deposited the one Ed had found in our yard close to a shrub. I found another in the middle of their front yard and then a third in the middle of the backyard at the house in between us. She has had puppies before so we’re not sure why she scattered these about.

Needless to say after helping them search and search with flashlights, we found no more outside, but she did bless them with six more once they let her into the garage of their home.

Dogs! Gotta love them and we do! Had you noticed?

Oh my, what a rude awakeing! But I am glad you were able to find all of the puppies. At least I hope you did.

I guess mamma escaped on the wrong night and was seeking help. Good for Ed. :)
